Cedar Rapids Community Schools

CRCSD Next Chief Financial Officer

Dave Nicholson

We are pleased to announce that David Nicholson has been selected as the district’s next Chief Financial Officer. David will officially begin his duties on October 1, 2026.

"We are thrilled to welcome David back to our leadership team. His deep understanding of our district and expertise in school finance will be instrumental as we advance our school redesign efforts and long-term strategic goals,” shared Superintendent Dr. Tawana Lannin. “David’s commitment to financial stewardship and accountability will help guide our district toward long-term financial stability, so we can continue to invest in what matters most - our students and staff."

This appointment marks a return to CRCSD for David, who previously served as our Executive Director of Business Services for four years. He joins us from the Council Bluffs Community School District, where he currently serves as CFO and Treasurer. With a career that includes leadership roles at Linn-Mar CSD and the Central Rivers Area Education Agency, David brings a wealth of expertise in Iowa school finance, operational efficiency, and long-term fiscal planning.

Nicholson will succeed Karla Hogan, who is retiring in January 2027. Karla has served CRCSD for nearly 10 years, including the last 4 years as CFO. We thank Karla for her leadership and wish her the very best in her retirement.

"I am honored to return to CRCSD," David shared. "Having served here previously, I have a deep appreciation for this district’s commitment to excellence. I am eager to use my experience to ensure our budget remains firmly focused on student success and the long-term health of the district."

As we continue to navigate a changing financial landscape and work through our district reconfigurations, David’s deep familiarity with CRCSD and his proven track record in complex fiscal management will be invaluable.

Please join us in welcoming David back to the CRCSD team!
