CRCSD Earns National Recognition for Financial Reporting

Cedar Rapids Community School District has received national recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO International) for its financial reporting for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025.

GFOA awarded the district its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report. An independent panel evaluated the report against the program’s standards, including how clearly it communicates the district’s financial position and makes financial information accessible to readers. GFOA describes the certificate as its highest recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The district also received recognition from ASBO International for excellence in financial reporting for the same fiscal year. The awards recognize school districts that demonstrate high standards in financial reporting, transparency, and communication of financial information to their communities.

“I deeply appreciate the work of our finance team and their commitment to providing our community with a clear and complete picture of district finances,” said Superintendent Dr. Tawana Lannin. “That transparency matters as we make decisions about how to serve students and steward public resources.”

The recognition comes as the district continues to navigate funding challenges and make decisions about the long-term sustainability of its schools and programs. As the work moves forward, district leaders remain committed to transparent, community-informed processes.

“Our Board is committed to ensuring our community has an accurate, transparent picture of the district’s finances. This national recognition reflects the strong work already being done and provides important assurance that our financial reporting meets—and exceeds—rigorous standards for transparency and accountability,” said Board Vice President Scott Drzycimski, who also serves on the district’s Finance Core Committee. “As we address financial challenges and chart a sustainable path for our future, we will continue building on that success, strengthening our practices and giving our community the information it needs to understand both the challenges before us and the decisions we make.”
