Cedar Rapids Community Schools Reach Record Graduation High, Outpacing State and Regional Averages

The Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) is celebrating a historic milestone as new data reveals the district’s four-year graduation rate has surged to 81.98%.

This isn’t just a marginal gain; it represents a 2.91% increase from last year and a nearly 5% jump since 2023. Most notably, CRCSD’s growth has significantly outpaced the state average increase of 0.5%, while also exceeding the year-over-year growth of neighboring districts Linn-Mar and College Community.

Closing the Achievement Gap

While the headline number is impressive, the internal data tells a story of systemic equity and targeted support. The district reported substantial gains across several key student demographics:

• Black/African American Students: Achieved a remarkable 9.2% improvement, rising to 80.5% and moving above the state average.
• English Language Learners (ELL): Saw a 7.6% increase in graduation rates.
• Students with Disabilities: Reported a 6.3% rise.
• Hispanic/Latino Students: Graduation rates climbed to 77.8%.
• Low Socio-Economic Backgrounds: Growth in this sector rose at nearly quadruple the state’s growth rate.
